Anglers Academy's Spring Creek Retreat

ANGLERS ACADEMY MONTANA SPRING CREEK RETREAT - GENERAL OVERVIEW

Anglers Academy's Spring Creek Retreat is an educational fishing trip offered to alumni. Students who attended the "Signature" or "Women's" course are invited to join Anglers Academy instructors on DePuys Spring Creek in Livingston, Montana.

DePuys Spring Creek is one of three renowned Paradise Valley Spring Creeks, known for reliable PMD hatches in summer. These sought-after July dates attract hatch-fishing anglers, and mid-July is chosen because it reliably offers large, selective trout feeding on PMDs in a picturesque spring creek setting. The Montana Spring Creek Retreat offers an advanced opportunity for those who want a closer look at sight fishing for feeding trout, both on the surface and below. It's a perfect spot to apply the skills learned in the Signature or Women's course and practice them in a real setting!

Fly fishing the famous spring creek hatches usually begin in mid to late morning, when conditions are ideal for emergence. Before the hatch starts, we'll be on the water discussing topics like fly choices, leader setup, detailed insect analysis, fish behavior, stalking techniques, cast positioning, slack-line presentations, and other related subjects.

The afternoons and much of the day will be dedicated to DePuys Spring Creek with the Anglers Academy instructors, hunting for feeding trout. On the water, two anglers will be assigned to each instructor, with pairings rotated daily. This is a full walk-wade trip; no boats will be involved. The emphasis is on wading and stalking feeding trout, and in some cases, sight-nymphing may be involved.

In the evenings, the group gathers again for drinks, appetizers, and dinner. The camaraderie shared around the fly-tying vises and at the dinner table is expected to be truly memorable.

Experienced casters will refine their technique, and gain a thorough understanding of the mechanics and principles of high-level fly casting.  In this course, the focus is primarily on slack line casts - - getting the drift.

How much fishing will I do?

We'll fish most of the day say from 11:30 till 6:30 pm when the insects and trout are active.

Do you recommend staying additional days in the area to fish on my own or with guides?

Absolutely! There are good wade fishing opportunities and excellent fly shops that offer guiding services.

How is the fishing in the area at that time of year?

July is an excellent time of year to fish for rising trout on the Paradise Valley Spring Creeks. There are good hatches starting late-morning going into the evening.

How much time will be spent indoors vs. outdoors?

Each morning, we'll have a handful of advanced topics to cover before departing for the river.  Most of the day and the focus of the trip is to pursue the fishing.
